Our volunteers are an important part of our hospice care team, helping to improve the quality of life for our patients, their families and their caregivers.

We are looking for great volunteers that are willing to assist in various capacities. Training is provided and volunteers are supervised by a volunteer coordinator and are supported by other members of the patient care team. Some examples of volunteer needs: offering companionship, playing chess, cards or board games, knitting or scrapbooking, providing support at time of death, veteran to veteran visits, making weekly "tuck in" calls, making bereavement phone calls or visits, administrative support and much more.

Aurora Healthcare Volunteer Opportunities

The Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteer Program aims to pair recruited veteran volunteers with hospice patients who have been identified as veterans. We service Brown, Calumet, Door, Kewaunee, Marinette (southern portion), Menominee, Oconto, Outagamie, Shawano, Waupaca counties. Veteran volunteers are important because they are able to form a camaraderie with veteran patients that can help eliminate the stoicism and secrecy that veteran patients often develop from having served in the armed forces.

Bristol Hospice provides end of life care, and volunteers are integral parts of the teams that care for each patient.

You can be a companion and friend for a patient on hospice.

Hospice volunteers can also work in the agency office doing various support projects.

Your volunteer time is flexible and valued! When you are a part of the Bristol Volunteer Team, you receive training, support, a network of fellow volunteers and staff, and the knowledge that you have comforted someone on their final journey.

* Friendly Visitor/Companion Volunteers: Friendly Visitor Volunteers help enhance patient?s quality of life through regular visits and social interaction. Times are flexible and based around the volunteer?s schedule. * Vigil Volunteers: Assist patients and families by providing comfort and supportive presence during their final days and hours that might otherwise be alone during this time. Volunteers can also assist in giving family members a break from sitting vigil at the bedside. * Office Volunteers: Assist staff with organizational and clerical tasks in our De Pere office. * Harmony Music Volunteers: Share your musical talents with hospice patients that enjoy music! Music can create a peaceful and soothing environment for patients. * Pet Therapy Volunteers: Pet therapy dogs are needed to help brighten patient?s days with their social visits. Information on certification program available. * Vets to Vets Volunteers: Veteran Volunteers are matched with a Veteran patient who may have a similar military background to provide social visits and companionship.

These unique companion volunteers bring the gift of friendship to our Veteran patients. They enhance quality of life through regular social visits by offering support, companionship and assistance with non-medical tasks to ensure that patients spend their final days in dignity and comfort.

VETERAN TO VETERAN COMPANION VOLUNTEER:

 We are looking for Veterans who interested in providing companionship to our Veteran hospice patients. For many Veterans, the opportunity to share their stories can be fulfilling and often contributes a sense of fellowship, life closure and peace. If the volunteer visiting is a Veteran, the sharing can be all that more powerful. Veterans may want to share their stories with someone who understands what they went through. They feel connected by hearing other Veteran stories. They gain validation and understanding in a very special way from another Veteran.
