We’re looking for creative volunteers to help with face painting during our Woodland Wonders kick-off event on May 19! This is a fun way to get involved and engage with our visitors as we celebrate the beauty and wonder of trees, art, and nature. Choose your own pre-set designs or get as creative as you'd like! Supplies will be provided by the Garden. 

A volunteer Communications Team member produces content for New Leaf Foods, adhering to our organization’s communication strategies, values and goals. Working with the Communications Team Lead, Communications Coordinator and other team members, this volunteer will have the opportunity to inform our community on local, healthy foods and resources, as well as our events and projects.  

Communication Team’s Goals: 

Promote our vision: good food for good health, now and for generations

Promote a clean environment for all

Create connections between local consumers, farmers and producers 

Work collaboratively with community, civic, business and educational institutions

Celebrate healthy local foods and farms

Provide local consumers with information on how to access local healthy food

Our Activities Department is welcoming compassionate volunteers to spend meaningful time with residents in our Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center. We have various locations: De Pere, Appleton, Peshtigo, Marinette, Weston, Rhinelander, and WI Rapids. 

1:1 social visits with residents

Therapy-certified animal visits

Helping with arts and crafts, bingo, and games

Playing cards, board games, and doing puzzles

Manicures

Leading Bible studies or faith-based activities

Supporting residents with hobbies they enjoy

We also love group volunteers! Student organizations, community groups, and clubs are encouraged to volunteer together.

We happily host choir, theater, dance, and music groups who want to rehearse or perform for residents.

Become a Reading Coach for Kids!

It only takes an hour a week to make a difference to a child!

Why Volunteer?

Research shows that third graders who have proficient reading skills are nearly five times more likely to graduate high school than their peers who do not. Yet, many third graders in our area schools test below proficient for on-track readiness in English Language Arts. By volunteering as a Reading Coach for Kids, you can help improve these students' reading abilities, boost their academic success, and make a lasting impact on their future.

What is Reading Coaches for Kids?

Reading Coaches for Kids, coordinated through AmeriCorps Seniors Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), is a volunteer tutoring program designed to increase students' reading abilities and academic success by providing volunteers aged 18 and older in Brown County Kindergarten through 5th grade classrooms during the regular school year and summer school.

Who Can Volunteer?

This program is open to individuals aged 18 and up, with a special emphasis on those aged 55+ who are interested in being part of the intergenerational experiences that make Reading Coaches for Kids so impactful.. No educational background is required—just a desire to help children succeed in reading!

First a little bit about what a Neighborhood Association is: quite simply we define it as neighbors living within a designated area of the City who are concerned about issues affecting their neighborhood and who have decided to work together to protect and ensure a better social, economic, and business climate in their Neighborhood. Neighborhood Associations act as a “voice” for the neighborhood residents, a somewhat official link to local government and the larger community. Many neighborhoods find that by banding together and forming a Neighborhood Association, they are better able to meet the collective needs of the Neighborhood.

Chef’s Table Program

A recipe program that inspires the community to use local ingredients from farmers markets and Wisconsin artisans to cook nutritious food at home.

The NEW Zoo needs YOU!

Volunteer opportunities available will depend on the season and weather, but the possibilities are nearly endless!* We require no minimum hour commitments from our volunteers. You can choose your own schedule or choose to assist us with a variety of date-specific events, such as our yearly fundraisers and ongoing educational programs.

Some of the opportunities you have as a volunteer include:

> Helping with the zoo’s special events, such as Zoo Boo, Holiday Fest, and more.
> Assisting with special projects around the zoo, including cleaning, maintenance, art projects, etc.
> Assisting with education programs, such as Summer Zoo Camp and Zoo Snooze overnights.
> Helping with clerical tasks and record keeping.
> Helping in the Mayan Restaurant and Visitor Center.

*Please note that the majority of NEW Zoo volunteers ARE NOT able to work directly with zoo animals, for safety and other reasons. We have many opportunities that are not directly related to animal care. Individuals who are more interested in working directly with zoo animals should consider an Internship instead.

Position Description

Seasonal historical interpreters share the stories of Northeastern Wisconsin with visitors of all ages through demonstrations, presentations, storytelling, and performances. They work within a variety of historic buildings, wear period appropriate clothing, and demonstrate traditional skills and crafts. Historic interpreters report to the Director of Engagement.

Primary Duties

Special Skills

Experience in or a strong desire to learn skills in one or more of the following areas: blacksmithing, print making, textile art, carpentry, historic cooking, historical reenacting, farming/gardening, music (vocal or instrumental), historic firearms, language skills, 19th century military life, etc.

Work Environment

This position requires primarily outdoor work which can occur in adverse climate conditions. Work may be performed in poorly lit areas, near open fires, and in areas that vary from quiet to loud. Applicants should be able to lift/carry up to 25 lbs. Accommodations can be made on a case-by-case basis and those in need of accommodation are encouraged to apply.

This is a part-time, seasonal position that runs from Tuesdays - Sundays from May - October. Historical interpreters are needed:

Do you love history, science, and art exhibits and sharing your enthusiasm for these subjects with kids? The museum is looking for volunteers to lead school groups through the exhibits.

As a tour guide, you'll be responsible for leading groups of up to 25 students and their teachers/chaperones through the exhibits for 45-60 minutes.  Successful volunteers don't need to be experts on everything in the museum; we'll teach you everything you need to know. What is more important is enthusiasm, the ability to think on your feet when a kid asks a whacky question, and your ability to make the museum fun and entertaining.

Volunteers train by shadowing experienced guides, spending time exploring the exhibits on their own, and when they're ready, by doing a tag-team tour with an experienced guide.

The schedule is variable, but our volunteers typically lead between 2 and 5 tours each month, and tours are usually weekdays with most being in the mornings.

Description The Social Media Specialist (Blog) will spend two to three hours weekly creating casual works for use on the organization's blog. The volunteer will need to apply basic journalism and research skills to craft detailed articles about the Green Bay area. This volunteer may also assist the Social Media Manager with the creation and maintenance of social media, such as Pinterest.

Position Details Individual will do the following in this position:

-Generate post ideas
-Research the information necessary for the post

-Interview residents, organizations, and others on their interests or history of the area

-Write articles and publish them on the organization's webpage using tools including (but not limited to) Google Drive and Wordpress

-Other tasks as assigned

Requirements Individual must possess the following skills to be successful in this position:

-Pre-existing experience preferred

-Ability to drive traffic to a blog and update the blog regularly with meaningful posts

-Ability to generate/sustain a two-way conversation that leads to a sense of community and reader loyalty

-Excellent grammar and proofreading skills

-Knowledge and accounts of social media pages

-An understanding of Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

-An understanding of copyright laws, including but not limited to those pertaining to blogging

-Communication skills to interview guests and feature businesses

-Knowledge and access to online calling software (Skype, Google Hangouts, etc.) and proper equipment
-Flexibility and dependability

Training will be provided. However, the individual must possess the listed requirements to be successful.
