Volunteer: YOU can help change a child's story! Become a Court Appointed Special Advocate!

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Brown County is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization that provides a voice for children who have experienced abuse and/or neglect who are under the legal protection of the court system.

We recruit, train and support community volunteers to advocate on behalf of children under court protection until they are safe and thriving in permanent homes.

CASA volunteers visit the child regularly & submit a monthly report to the judge on the child's safety and well-being to help the judge make important decisions on the child's future. Every CASA works closely with an Advocate Supervisor, on the CASA staff, who provides support and guidance throughout the court process and child's journey.

You do not need any specialized skills to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer. CASA volunteers are 21 or older, undergo a background, child protective services and reference check, take part in a personal interview, & complete CASA volunteer pre-service training.

CASA volunteers are patient, open-minded people from all walks of life who have good communication skills, a history of following through on commitments, and a willingness to accept guidance. Above all, CASA volunteers care about children and their futures!

All volunteers go through an initial 30 hours of training (15 hours of online coursework and 15 hours of in-person training). The training includes sections that guide you through the role of the CASA volunteer, the child welfare system, needs and development of children, trauma, mental health, poverty, professional communication, cultural competence, educational needs and permanency.

Once training is completed, volunteers are then sworn in by a Brown County Judge, taking an oath of confidentiality.

Check out our website to learn more and help us make a difference for children who need a strong voice!

Volunteer: Remote Volunteer at Aurora Health Care

Are you interested in making a positive impact on inpatients in our hospitals without leaving your home? We would love to have you on our team!  We are looking for volunteers to call inpatients while in the hospital to welcome them to our care, relay visitation guidelines and inquire how their stay has been.

Concierge Admission Program (CAP) include the following tasks for volunteers:

Remotely, volunteers call patients using a well-developed script and introduce themselves, inquire how their patient experience has been since they arrived and explains the hospitals visitation guidelines. If yes, volunteers will place these calls. If/when patients relay needs or concerns, we connect with nursing staff at the end of the patient call to assist in real time with the need/concern. If/when patients recognize staff for providing exceptional care, we send recognition emails to the staff members with a copy to their leader.

Advocate Aurora computer access is provided for all volunteers.
