At Literacy Green Bay we are not only helping our students learn English but also helping them improve their digital literacy skills. We are looking for volunteers to assist in our computer lab with basic computer proficiency; helping students navigate, comprehend, and use digital technology effectively. You do not need to be a computer expert, just have a basic understanding of computers and how to navigate the internet. Shifts: Monday-Thursday,: 9:45-10:45am or 6:45-7:15pm.

As a tram driver, you will be responsible for picking up and dropping off Private Event Guests in various locations around the 56-acre park. Our tram drivers provide an invaluable service to our visitors. And because the date and length of tram driving shifts vary depending on event needs, volunteers can pick and choose the opportunities that work for their schedules. 

A valid driver's license required as well as a short Tram Driver Course (provided by us prior to your first tram driving shift).

Assist with beverage sampling throughout the Garden during our Brews, Bistros, and Bonfires event. Volunteers will help distribute pours to guests at various tasting stations under the direction of a lead from Dean Distributing. The lead from Dean Distributing will be available to provide guidance and communicate with the different pour stations. Volunteers should be comfortable interacting with guests, keeping the tasting area organized, and helping create a welcoming experience.

Location: Various locations throughout the Garden, primarily outdoors under tents or coverings. Typically requires standing, but can accommodate a seated role upon request.

A volunteer Communications Team member produces content for New Leaf Foods, adhering to our organization’s communication strategies, values and goals. As a fundraising / grant writing volunteer, you will work with our resource development team to ensure New Leaf Foods’s access to financial resources which fund our projects and events. You will have the opportunity to help the team find grants to apply for and will assist in writing and editing grant applications. Team members also brainstorm and manage fundraising campaigns, and come together to conceptualize ways to monetize events to expand outreach for our mission. Become a Reading Coach for Kids!

It only takes an hour a week to make a difference to a child!

Why Volunteer?

Research shows that third graders who have proficient reading skills are nearly five times more likely to graduate high school than their peers who do not. Yet, many third graders in our area schools test below proficient for on-track readiness in English Language Arts. By volunteering as a Reading Coach for Kids, you can help improve these students' reading abilities, boost their academic success, and make a lasting impact on their future.

What is Reading Coaches for Kids?

Reading Coaches for Kids, coordinated through AmeriCorps Seniors Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), is a volunteer tutoring program designed to increase students' reading abilities and academic success by providing volunteers aged 18 and older in Brown County Kindergarten through 5th grade classrooms during the regular school year and summer school.

Who Can Volunteer?

This program is open to individuals aged 18 and up, with a special emphasis on those aged 55+ who are interested in being part of the intergenerational experiences that make Reading Coaches for Kids so impactful.. No educational background is required—just a desire to help children succeed in reading!

Volunteers will get to see the impact of their work with hands on projects for homeowners in need at homes in Allouez, Aug. 17-21 and Green Bay, Sept. 21-25. Work such as landscaping, yardwork, painting, gutter cleaning and repair, power washing are common.  Some include skilled labor such as door hanging/repair/trimming, installing handrail/safety bars, window repair/replacement, fence, deck and siding repair.  Lead project coordinators will be available to guide the work and skilled handyman/professionals are always welcome to share their knowledge and expertise to educate both the volunteer and homeowner.

Individuals and organizations/businesses with a group are welcome. We are open to work with an organization/business who has a group but is unavailable to volunteer during the 2 specified Good Neighbor Week dates of August 17-21 in Allouez and September 21-25 in Green Bay in order to help as many homeowners as we can-we received 53 applications. We are thrilled to host an enchanting evening at Heritage Hill Historical Park this Halloween season! Step back in time as our park transforms into a whimsical and slightly eerie wonderland for trick-or-treaters of all ages.

Each year, Heritage Hills annual trick or treating events sees around 1000 attendees, making it our largest attended one day event. We kindly ask our volunteers to provide bags of candy if they are able.

As a volunteer, you will play a crucial role in creating a magical experience for our guests. Children in costumes will wander through the park, eagerly collecting treats from volunteers like yourself at our various historical buildings!  You'll not only help preserve our historical village's charm but also create lasting memories for families in our community. It's a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in history while celebrating the spirit of Halloween in a unique setting.

Literacy Green Bay is looking for volunteers to lead small groups of students in conversation to practice their English. No teaching experience or second language skills are required. Literacy Green Bay will provide conversation starters and topics, if needed. Just bring a love of connecting and creating community! Shifts starting September 14: 4:30-5:30 pm (Mondays and Tuesdays) or 11:30 am-12:30 pm (Wednesdays and Thursdays). Volunteers can sign up to come one day a week, or several days a week. Minimum age: 18.

As a VIP Volunteer you will be assisting the elderly patients by offering resources for practical needs, and companionship.  As well as providing patient feedback to nursing and patient experience teams regarding concerns. The Literacy Green Bay Adult Tutoring program may be the perfect fit! Our tutors come from a variety of backgrounds, and many with no previous experience in the education field. Because we require and provide the training necessary to become a tutor, all are welcome! We ask for a six-month commitment for our adult tutors, but the hours vary depending on the match. Volunteer Guardians Needed!

A legal guardian is a decision maker and an advocate for those who are incompetent due to aging, a developmental disability, chronic mental illness or alcohol and drug abuse (i.e. ward). Guardians ensure that the individual’s rights to proper housing, nutrition, and medical care are met. A guardian is expected to visit their ward at least once a month and complete an annual report. A legal guardian does not financially support the ward, take care of the ward on a day to day basis, nor personally provide a place for the ward to live. Time commitment is based on the needs of the ward.

Volunteers receive training and support from the Brown County Adult Protective Services Unit. A stipend of $15.00 per ward-per month, mileage, and reimbursement for expenses such as copying legal paperwork, postage is available upon request.

Support a Parent

Volunteer mentors spend time (2-3 times per month) with parents referred by Brown County Child Protective Services who have identified an interest in having an informal support in their lives. Mentors often spend time helping parents with minor children enhance skills that empower the family by developing household routines, budgeting money, planning meals and shopping for necessary items, connecting them with other community resources, or simply supporting the parent. Matches are based on compatibility and can continue for as long as both parties are interested though the hope would be to have volunteers engaged with their Parent Pal for a minimum of 18 months.

Volunteer mentors spend time (2-3 times per month) in a recreational or learning activity with a child, age 3 or older, that has been referred by Brown County Child Protective Services. Volunteer mentors help the child adjust to the separation or loss of a parent, enhance self-esteem and confidence, and learn new skills. Chaperones spend time with a youth in the Pals Program by attending the program’s monthly group activities. The Pals Program is a mentoring program of Brown County Health & Human Services. Children in the program are age 3 or older from a family that has been or is currently involved with Brown County Child Protective Services. The children needing a chaperone do not have an adult who is able to bring them to the activity to allow them to participate.

Volunteers support children in out-of-home care by supervising the family interaction with their parents. The volunteers help to assure a safe and secure environment both physically and emotionally for the children. Time commitment is based upon the volunteer’s schedule and the particular visit selected by the volunteer in conjunction with the Volunteer Coordinator.

The Art Garage is looking for volunteers to help in several areas dealing with visual, literary, and performing arts. Opportunities include attending to needs in the Gallery, such as welcoming visitors, assisting with installations and tear-down; helping our team and instructors with workshops, supply organization, and studio set-up; working closely with our Board and staff to usher for shows and other events. Help Catholic Charities Financial Health team find pending foreclosure cases once per week across our 16-county area (online, using CCAP – WI Circuit Court Database). Using personal computers and volunteering from home, volunteers will help struggling homeowners quickly get free with legitimate guidance when they are very vulnerable by connecting the Financial Health team with those in risk of foreclosure.

Time commitment: 1 hour per week or less

As a tram driver, you will be responsible for picking up and dropping off visitors in various locations around the 56-acre park. Whether you're driving the tram on a normal business day, providing lifts during busy community events, or chauffeuring a pair of newlyweds, tram drivers provide an invaluable service to our visitors. The Seymour Park Food Forest project aims to help alleviate food insecurity and food deserts within the City of Green Bay by growing healthy local food in this public park in a way that is sustainable, costs less money over time, and reduces maintenance for the Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department.  It is a pilot project in partnership with New Leaf Foods, the City of Green Bay, and the Seymour Park Neighborhood Association. This project is located at the Frank B. Seymour Park at 314 S Ashland Ave Green Bay, WI 54303.

Volunteers are needed on an ongoing basis to help to plant, weed, water, harvest, and maintain the garden and food forest. Occasionally, special volunteer projects/events may also be held at Seymour Park. We're looking for volunteers with garden knowledge as well as people that want to learn.

Provide a fun and meaningful education experience for children (schools, scouts, daycares, preschools, etc.) in the Garden!

Tours take place throughout the developed areas of the Garden as well as our natural areas. Tours are typically 1.5 hours in length and can cover between ¾ mile to 1 ½ miles. Each guide will lead 15 to 20 students along with several adult chaperones.

Responsibilities: 

Contribute to beautiful, inspiring, and well-maintained public gardens. Gardening Outdoors begins in April and concludes in mid-November, dependent on the weather. 

April-May ~ Take part in Green House transplanting and dividing plants, adding compost and mulch to the flowerbeds, cutting back plants, and removing mulch from roses and planting roses. Spring cleaning in the gardens consists of sweeping, picking up twigs and leaves and other debris.

May-June ~ Beautiful summer landscapes require planting annual and perennials flowerbeds, watering plants and fertilizing roses, and of course, mulching, weeding, dead-heading, and digging spent spring-flowering bulbs.

June-Sept ~ Maintain the gardens by weeding, mulching, pruning, dead-heading, and staking plants, as well as sweeping, and raking leaves.

Sept-Nov ~Help prepare for winter and next spring by planting bulbs and perennials, cleaning up beds, mulching, and putting roses to bed.

Help out with the daily operations by being the on board safety officer, pointing out points of interest around the grounds and being interactive with patrons of all ages from all over the world! Greet clients and building visitors, answer phones, route calls, and notify staff that their visitor has arrived. The NEW Zoo is looking for volunteers who are interested in supervising the Giraffe Feeding Experience! 

The Feeding Experience is a daily opportunity for volunteers to be involved in, to support the NEW Zoo. Events or Donation Drives: Plan and execute fundraising events or donation drives with support from staff; assist with House of Hope events.

Facility Maintenance: Pick up trash, trim hedges, do yardwork, fix broken furniture, change lightbulbs, etc.

Gardening: Plant, weed, and maintain garden beds and landscaping.

Organizing: Track and sort donations; organize basement storage areas, closets, and pantries; etc.

Painting: Assist with painting interior walls at House of Hope properties. Need not be a professional but painting experience is required.
